Install Plate Assy. into drill press (loose) with center drill in chuck. Lower spindle inserting center drill into drill bushing. Adjust leveling screws until center drill moves freely in drill bushing. ( center drill is aligned 90° to Plate Assy. Tighten attachment bolt in Mtg. Hole to secure Plate Assy. to drill press. Lower center drill into drill bushing again and recheck after tightening. Lower center drill into drill bushing again allowing point to protrude out of drill bushing on lower side. Install distributor housing into collar assy, (as far in as it will go) End of distributor housing should contact Plate Assy. Tighten clamp screw to secure housing in Collar Assy. OEM distributors with hollow lower housing require drilling metering pin hole in spoke supporting lower bushing. Carefully align hole location with center drill point by looking through alignment slot to visually align.

Drilling Procedure

See B Install end mill into chuck and lower into drill bushing and machine a flat spot into lower housing. Remove end mill and replace with center drill.
See C Drill hole approximately .050 inches deep. Remove center drill and replace with drill bit. Be sure to use cutting fluid to do the final drilling.
See D Drill hole through housing intersecting lifter oil galley. Be very gentle doing this especially as the drill bit first starts to break through into lifter oil galley. It is easy to break the drill bit if this is done quickly. As you are drilling the hole, drill a little, raise drill bit out of bushing to remove chips and drill again. Take your time doing this. We recommend drilling 10 holes per drill bit to prevent failure of drill bit. 10 holes per bit will leave you a good safety margin. After hole is drilled remove distributor housing from Collar assy. Clean thoroughly and press metering pin into hole using some green Locktite on pin.
See A End of pin should not extend past the end of distributor housing that touches thrust washer. Check for chips and burrs. Clean and reassemble.
If you plan to modify numerous distributors it is worth while to leave fixture set up in a dedicated drill press. In testing we went out and bought the cheapest thing we could find and it works great. If left set up in drill press instantiation time will be less than 3 minutes taking your time.
